Playlist Generator
Couples build the playlists for their wedding right in the portal, searching Spotify, importing lists they already made, and shaping as many lists as the night needs.

The Playlist Generator lets your couples build the music for their wedding themselves: searching Spotify from their portal, importing a playlist they already made, or getting ideas from AI. Every list lands with you, song by song. Works with Spotify.
Playlists are lists in the portal, not Spotify playlists
The couple's playlists live in SpinBook: each song with its title, artist, and Spotify id, held where you can print it, read it, and (soon) attach it to the planning form and timeline. Nothing is created in anyone's Spotify account. Spotify is the search box and the import source, and every list reaches you on the event's print sheet.
As many lists as the night needs
Every event starts with three suggested lists:
- Cocktail hour: background music while guests arrive and mingle.
- Dinner: softer music people can talk over.
- Dancing: the dance floor, where most couples spend their time.
They're suggestions, not fixtures. Couples (and you) can rename any list, remove ones you don't need, and add your own: a ceremony prelude, an after-party, a do-not-play list. Up to ten per event, and a removed suggested list can always be added back.
What Spotify connections are for
Importing. Copying songs out of an existing Spotify playlist needs a linked account; Spotify won't hand playlist contents to an app-only connection. A couple can connect their own account on the playlist page, or your business connection in Settings → Playlist Generator covers couples who don't. Searching for songs needs no connection from anyone.
Playlists that were saved to a Spotify account before this change keep their links, on the couple's page and on the print sheet.
Four ways to fill a list
Couples don't have to pick songs one at a time. All four work on whichever list is open:
- Search. Type a song or artist and hit Add. Search works immediately, with no Spotify login from anyone. The couple doesn't need an account and neither do you.
- Paste a playlist they already made. Under Already made a playlist? Paste the link, they drop in a Spotify playlist link and we copy its songs into the list, where they can edit them like any other. Most couples arrive with a playlist already built, so this is usually the fastest route. Two catches: the playlist has to be public, and copying songs out of one needs a connected Spotify account (either the couple's or yours; unlike search, which needs none). We say which one is the problem if an import fails.
- Get ideas from AI. Under Not sure where to start?, couples describe the vibe, open a ready-made prompt in Claude or ChatGPT, and paste the answer back. We look up each song on Spotify and add the ones we can confirm; anything we can't find becomes a request for you (see below). Nothing runs on our side and it costs you nothing.
- Your starter playlists. See below.
Songs can sit in more than one list. A slow track at dinner and again during dancing is fine.
Anything Spotify doesn't have
Under the search box is Can't find a song? Ask for it here: a title, optionally an artist and a note ("the live version", "right after the first dance"). It opens on its own the moment a search comes back empty.
These land under Songs you've asked for and reach you with the rest of the list. They can't join a Spotify playlist (there's no Spotify track to add), so treat them as requests to handle yourself. They're listed separately on your print sheet for exactly that reason.
Starter playlists
Most couples freeze at an empty list. Give them somewhere to begin: curate a few playlists in your own Spotify account and add them under Settings → Playlist Generator → Starter playlists: a name and the share link.
Name them after the moment, not the genre: First Dance, Cocktail Hour, Cake Cutting, Last Dance. That's what a couple is actually choosing, and it lines up with the timeline they'll fill in later.
Add these songs copies that playlist's tracks into whichever list the couple has open, where they can reorder, remove, and add their own. A starting point, not a commitment. Adding a second playlist appends and skips anything already there, so nothing gets duplicated or overwritten.
Removing a starter playlist is always reversible. It's hidden from couples, not deleted, and Restore brings it back.
One handover method per list
Every list is exactly one of three things, and the choice sits right on the list:
- Built here: songs picked with search, imported from Spotify, or added from starter lists and AI ideas. The default, and the richest for your DJ.
- A link: Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, anything with a URL. The list holds the pointer; SpinBook doesn't copy the songs. Use the Spotify importer instead if you want them editable here.
- Uploaded files: a PDF, screenshot, Word doc, text or CSV file, up to 10 MB each. Stored for you to download; SpinBook doesn't read or parse them.
An empty list offers all three ways in. Changing your mind is one tap: Build songs here instead turns a linked or uploaded list back into a buildable one. A list with songs in it stays a built list until the songs are removed. Whatever the method, the handover counts: any one of them completes the playlist checklist item, and all of them reach your print sheet.
For DJs
- Your print sheet groups every song by list, in the couple's order, and keeps requested songs in their own section. Those are the free-text ones with no Spotify id.
- Disconnecting (Settings → Playlist Generator → Disconnect) removes SpinBook's access tokens, deletes all cached song picks for your couples, and unlinks any Spotify accounts your couples connected. Playlists already in a Spotify library stay where they are; SpinBook never deletes them.
For couples
- Search works right away. You don't need a Spotify account to find and add songs.
- Connect Spotify only if you want to import playlists you already made there. You can unlink at any time; your song picks stay.
- Your lists save as you go. Come back and change them any time before the event; your DJ always sees the current version.
Checklist
- DJ: add a few starter playlists in Settings → Playlist Generator
- DJ: connect your Spotify account so couples can import without linking theirs
- Couple: open the playlist item on your checklist
- Couple: keep, rename, or swap the suggested lists to match your night
- Couple: fill each list (search, paste a playlist, or ask AI for ideas)
- Couple: ask for anything search couldn't find
- DJ: read through each list before the event
- DJ: check "Songs you've asked for", since those have no Spotify link
